Aanii, hello! My name is Lynzii and I’m happy to welcome you to the Auberge Inn Hostel, here in Providence Bay, Mnidoo Mnising (Manitoulin Island). I’m a local Island girl, who grew up in the community of M’Chigeeng First Nation, which is about 25 km’s from Prov, as we locals call it. I’m an Anishinaabe Kwe – Ojibwe woman and I’m a big sister, auntie, daughter and grand-daughter and cousin to many in M’Chigeeng, and have many friends on and off the Island. I’ve left for a few years here and there, for post-secondary education in Hotel and Resort Administration at Georgian College in Barrie, Ontario and Indigenous Environmental Studies at Trent University, in Peterborough, Ontario. I love to travel and explore new places; I’ve adventured to Costa Rica, Western Canada, Italy, Guyana – South America, Iqaluit and a bit of Northern Ontario. I’m passionate about the environment and the well-being of Mother Earth, and was a member of the Canadian Youth Delegation to Copenhagen, Denmark for the 2009 UN Climate Change Conference. I’m happiest outdoors, any season, but my favorite place to be is on the lake in my purple canoe. Since its winter time, I do enjoy snow shoeing, visiting Bridal Veil Falls and crafting. I’ve worked in First Nations tourism on the Island in the past and would be happy to share a little about our Anishinaabe culture with visitors to the Hostel and Island. I work on contract basis for a few organizations, such as Canadian Roots Exchange and Three Things Consulting, and also for my community, within the Health Services Center as a Youth Mentor for the M’Chigeeng Lil’Sisters Empowerment Project.
